Do you have a source for that claim? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:39, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Public Image Quotes

[edit]

Under public image, many quotes are used to describe Gates, but few are directly attributed. I was thinking it was perhaps scare quotes, but it seems we aren't supposed to use them per MOS:Words to watch. It also, of course, is using unsupported attributions, which is also a no-no under MOS:Words to watch. Thanks, Titan(moon)003 (talk) 14:41, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Some of those quoted descriptions are from The New Republic, a perennial source that is citable in regard to factual claims, but requires attribution of opinions. 2601:642:4F84:1590:CC04:DE49:EB51:F136 (talk) 21:42, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Charity donations

[edit]

I've just watched a BBC interview of Gates where he claimed to have, over the years, donated $100bn of his wealth to charity. I can't see that in this article nor can I see any RS supporting it after a very quick search. if true and RS could be found, it should be included. Any ideas if it can be sourced? Whether or not it's supported it seems a noteworthy claim to be mentioned (whether true or exaggeration). DeCausa (talk) 22:43, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Even if independent reliable sources are not found, The fact that Gates has made that assertion might be sufficiently noteworthy to mention in the article. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 01:14, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. The BBC have now reported it[1] and they claim it as an exclusive. I've added it - I wasn't sure of exactly the best place to add it (because the $100bn seems to cover all charities) so I've added it as an opener to the Philanthropy section above all sub-sections. Might be a better place. DeCausa (talk) 22:35, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

In Chapter eleven of Bill Gates book "Source Code" he declared his major at Harvard in his sophomore year as "applied math" and this information is to correct the line reading "He did not stay at Harvard long enough to choose a concentration but took mathematics (including Math 55) and graduate level computer science courses." under early life and education. Not done for now: Please clarify what you want to change in 'X to Y' form and provide a source. Warriorglance(talk to me) 05:50, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
